Jewelry is more just an accessory. It can also play a significant role in storytelling, especially in film and television. Such was the case with the pearl and diamond choker Audrey Hepburn’s Holly Golightly made famous in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Then there was the “Heart of the Ocean,” a sapphire heart-shaped pendant diamond necklace which the movie Titanic was centered around. And who could forget the ornate bib Nicole Kidman’s Satine donned in Moulin Rouge! Now, the actress’s latest character is wearing yet another piece of jewelry that could also cement itself as a cinematic icon.
In the erotic thriller Babygirl, Kidman plays Romy, a powerful, married CEO who embarks on a whirlwind, torrid affair with a much-younger intern (Harris Dickinson). Throughout the film, her character is clothed in pieces one might expect high-powered executives to wear (think: Max Mara cashmere coats, Armani powersuits, silk blouses). But as eagle eyed viewers might have noticed while watching, Romy is seen wearing (and oftentimes, fiddling with) a locket-pendant necklace in most scenes of the film.
“Sometimes you bring a lot of options to the conversation but honestly, we all knew immediately that this was the one,” adds Bart’s partner, Kurt Swanson. “The compass is part of Romy’s story who is trying to keep the course as she navigates new territory.”
“Besides being beautiful jewelry that feels right for the character,” adds Kurt, “it is the kind of detail that an actor and designers love!”
Babygirl is currently out in theaters and the Monica Rich Kosann “Adventure” Compass and “Anna” Locket Charm Necklace is available to shop now.
